Early on in the 1990 Valleydale Meats 500 at Bristol #4 Ernie Irvan battles #11 Geoff Bodine for the lead when Irvan spins coming off turn 2 but saves it from the wall and keeps going without a caution.

Just a few laps later #3 Dale Earnhardt spins in the same spot and he hits the inside wall to bring out the caution.

  • If you look at 0:19, Ernie hit a dark spot in the track coming out of 2, and then spins coming onto the backstretch.

And at 1:49, Earnhardt hits the same spot, and spins out the exact same way, but with more damage.

I think there was oil, and NASCAR didnt notice it.

    Great post!

    RIP Dale

    We miss ya man

  • Damn, NASCAR today would have thrown a caution today as soon as Irvan got slightly loose, let alone wreck the car. I miss old NASCAR...

  • Haha, old school stuff... 2 tires the first time, 2 more next time.. nowadays the pits are so fast that they would have changed all 4..

  • I love the squeegee method of cleaning the windshield instead of the tear-aways.

  • what a save

  • If you actually watch the video, Ernie most definitely did NOT save it completely from the wall. You can see him touch it slightly.
