The Hitcher, in Spain, translated as "Road to Hell".

Starring Rutger Hauer, Thomas Howell and Jennifer Jason Leigh, this is one of my favourite B-movies from the 80ies. Directed by Robert Harmon, a man who after this movie has made awful works, such as Van Damme's Nowhere to Run (shit from 1993), and some TV movies and shows.

The Hitcher is a strange movie, whith so many things which make up an unforgettable film:

-Thomas Howell coming from working with great directors such as Spielberg in ET (1982), Coppola in The Outsiders (great acting here, in 1983) and John Milius in Red Down (1984).
-Best performance by Rutger Hauer in all his career as an actor (by far).
-Harmon's filmmaking here is unique, with scenes which an apocalypsichal surreal and nihilistichal tone.

The sequel from 2003 is absolute shit, and the new remake starring Sean Bean as the nihilistic man simply does not worth the watch.

By the way, I also recommend Harmon's short film "China Lake" he made just before The Hitcher.

PD: This film is considered as a B-movie but.... Well, the budget is about $6,000,000....

  • C. Thomas Howell at his finest, not to mention Rutger Hauer! I just saw the remake yesterday and boy did that suck! I don't understand why they keep making re-makes, they will never be as good as the originals. I just heard they are going to re-make Bram Stoker's Dracula and have Brad Pitt in it. Ugh!! WTF no more re-makes, if hollywood can't come up with original ideas maybe it's time to just shut it down for a while. Just stop making movies alltogether unless it's an original and GOOD movie.

  • @xHollowfiedx heheheh TROLL ....... i keed i keed jk jkj hahahahahaha

  • @catherinefan32 Lol no worries I was just fucking around. Everyone's opinions tend to change over the course of time. Seeing as that comment was posted 2 years ago I had figured it would have. But I couldn't resist responding to it.

  • @xHollowfiedx yeah I was like 15 at the time so i was kinda a little shit at that time, but hey im not really a big fan of this film anymore and I think neither film is great anyway, Im more into Rutger haur's Blade Runner or something like Apocalypse Now than this film so yeah I have had change in opinon over some time. so sorry if you were hur,t I was just a bad sport about films and remakes at the time.

  • @catherinefan32 Hate people who prefer the remake? Do they act in a way that bothers you? I prefer the Remake over this and I like to think of myself as a pretty nice fellow. And have never sucked balls a day in my life.

  • the music that starts up at 5:05 CLASSIC. I always feel emotional when it hits haha

  • I love how the cop cars windshield breaks like that! :P
