Michigan cities, villages and townships receive revenue earmarked by the state constitution and statute to help pay for core governmental services such as police protectioin, fire services, roads, water and sewer service, and garbage collection.

  • Although revenue sharing streamlines tax collection, it´s neccesary to incorporate regulations in order to restrict funds reductions . Also, the percentages assigned to the local goverments should not be changed arbitrarily by the state o province. The best way to prevent problems is to tie the funds distributed to the local goverments to the tax collection.
