Ted Kennedy 77th Birthday Celebrations led by president Obama

Battling brain cancer, Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy made an emotional birthday appearance in Washington on Sunday night to accept an award for what his slain big brother called "the most admirable of human virtues - courage."

President Obama led a crowd at the Kennedy Center in singing "Happy Birthday" to the 77-year-old icon after an event hosted by comedian Bill Cosby.

Kennedy stood and delivered a thumbs up to the President from his balcony, where he was accompanied by First Lady Michelle Obama.
