Nethack - Annotated Dig For Victory (Elven Wizard)

This metastrategy aims to reach the wand of wishing at the castle as quickly as possible by acquiring a pick-axe from the Gnomish Mines, returning to the Dungeons of Doom, then immediately digging downward to the castle. This would normally bring a swift death to a Nethack character, but elven wizards and priests can start with a tonal instrument. This is used to crush enemies in the castle portcullis by using the passtune.

So many things can go wrong in doing this - conventional play will yield a higher ascension rate. I would be lying if I said that this wasn't fun to do, however!

@MrMccolgan The success rate for this is abysmal for me. I think going down to the castle as quickly as possible like this for the wand only works 5% of the time (the possible titan on Medusa's level, soldier wands, and air elementals are rough). Hitting up minetown for equipment (perhaps a magic lamp) would probably greatly increase the success rate.

Total ascensions ~50 I think

I rarely play nowadays on alt.org as Oblivious (for conducts/weird stuff) and other accounts for more casual play
