RVW composed this piece before the war in 1910. He didn't enlist in the Army till 1914. He could have avoided the war but chose to enlist in the Medical Corps. Then he was commisioned and commanded in the Artilery. This caused him to become deaf later in life.
Personally I think this piece goes with anything British! Be it war or peace.

@trichoone It was written in 1910. It is based on a work by a church musician and composer and not on war themes.

i can certainly sing better than i can play but thats not saying a great deal .
It doesn't work. This is a pastoral piece. Try the video with Gorecki's 3rd Symphony and you might have a result.

thankyou for your comment and opinion but i believe Vaughan Williams wrote this piece after serving in the medical core during the war after the sights he had seen in the field -trichoone .

thanks it is beautiful music and a shame to link it with the horrors of war but it seemed to fit .
