How To Tar Paper A Shingle Roof Valley Section

This is how I paper my vallies. I swear it is the fastest way out there. Take a close look at how I paper the 30# in the center of the valley. Then I run a roll of 15# felt paper diagonally down the valley, close enough in that I can tuck my metal w-valley under. Then I just run my 15# in the field on to the diagonal and cut it straight. Very waterproof, but saves you reaching for those long diagonal cuts. Try it once, you'll like it.

Felt paper is cheap? Where?? We pay $19.75 for a 4 sq roll of 15# here, I don't call that cheap.

Tar paper serves no purpose. It is not waterproof, it is not a "vapor barrier".

It is unnecessary.

Folks insist on using it simply because it has been around for years. Roofers love it because it's cheap, easy to "install", and the markup is like free money.

Do some research on your own then ask a roofing expert what would happen if you left it off...Watch his eye contact!
