Yellow Cockatiel (Barney) Loves his head rubbed

Here is the Youtube premier of Barney AKA 'Humie' (The Human Bird). He is a 5yr old Cockatiel I got while at university. He was a proper university student and was always out in the lounge while me and the 6 of my housemates were either partying, recovering or watching tv. He was the smallest of the bunch at the pet shop and was being bullied and his feathers were being pulled out by the others. We had to have him. He was a non hand reared bird so took about 6 months before he was comforable with any human physical contact.

since 2006 he has been living with my parents in a more relaxed environment and he is very happy. not a flying bird really. he prefers climbing around the room on the furniture and sitting around while the tv is on.

recently he has had a friend join him (I am not quite sure what the other bird is?) and Humie was at first very defensive due to not being around other birds. After a month they now share a cage with only a few squabbles about perch space.

Humie loves human contact and really shows his affection by preening you while he sits on your shoulder.

a beautiful little bird who has become a close friend and family member with a heart of gold.

I love this little chap!

Awwww!!!!!!!! see THIS is why i wanted a cockatiel instead of a parakeet! cuz they're more used to being around ppl depending on how they've been raised n stuff. im so sorry that Humie had to die!!! DDx LOVE THIS BIRD!!!! ITS SO CUTEEEE!!!!!!!!

That other bird is a Mulga parakeet, your birds are beautiful.
