Sikeston, MO, Seizes Dozens of Family Pets; Pit Bulls & Other Dogs Risk Immediate Euthanasia

SIKESTON, MO -- Animal control officers went house to house confiscating pitbulls and anything that resembled a pitbull. The family pets were taken to shelters and many risk immediate euthanasia. Owners were not given trials, court appearances, or any form of due process. They were not compensated for their stolen property. They were simply robbed of their cherished family members, many of whom will now be killed by the state.

Some of the victims mention how they tried to be law abiding citizens, and yet they were still punished. They complied with all the onerous Dog Control laws, such as dog registration, extra insurance mandates, putting up signs, and so on. Yet in the end, it was their compliance with Dog Control laws that ultimately led to the government coming to their doorstep to confiscate their property. When Dogs are outlawed, only outlaws will have Dogs.

No breed should be outlawed and punished, ever - concentrate on the owners, and responsible ownership - make it a case by case problem, not a round up - this is just wrong!

Reminds me of the commerce city police officer who shot a scared dog because he was trying to run away! WTF?! Dog=Family member You gonna start shooting kids next? how about cats? Have you seen a cat fight? Better find out what breed of cat is the most violent first!

I so agree with you that the Director should be an elected position.

You also need an elected board to this position as well. Oh and the reason for coming after the pit is probably because too many people called and complained that there was a pit that came at them when they walked by

Well Duh the dog was protecting the property like it should be. These people are just Pit scared because of all the negative publicity with all the Fighting cases about pits on the news.

The lady in the video makes a good point. They are supposed to be rounding up strays. The dogs they are coming after already have homes. They don't needs homes. Is this really the best use of tax dollars? Does this at all contribute to the betterment of society? The more I see things like this, the more I think the Shelter Director should be an elected position.
