OK so it's not the greatest quality but it will do. Turn it up a bit so you can hear the commentary.
A dramatic finish to a rather dramatic game - Geelong had gained the early ascendancy (with many of their soon to be premiership heroes in this one) but suffered when Ronnie Burns tore his hamstring. Melbourne would take the advantage leading by about four goals, but Geelong came back. The last four minutes or so saw a hugely dramatic finish, in which Bizzell kicked what he thought was a goal but was only just touched.
The bit I remember fondly about this game was not the actual game itself, but the crowd's reaction to the Around the Grounds scoreline when Fremantle beat the Hawks to record their first win of the season.
This game was the first Melbourne win I witnessed. Fast forward 10 years (and a round) and I would witness 186. Funnily enough Geelong had 288 possessions on this day, and Melbourne had 282 on the day of 186. Evolution for you.
As for the rest of 2001 with these sides? Geelong lost their remaining four games convincingly to North Melbourne, Port, Brisbane and the infamous clash at Princes Park against Carlton, whereas Melbourne, despite being thumped by the Hawks the week afterwards, won their final three games against the Swans, the Dockers and the Dogs.
All credit goes out to the AFL.
