@apologeticsman Everything you've said is true, though I must say a full set by quality maker would range more from around 3-4k USD. Pipes can surely cost as much as you've mentioned but I for would rather have brass over silver trim, seeing as it doesn't affect the sound!

it's commendable to be a Uilleann piper, but I would not even want to try. Aside from the very difficult techniques one must learn, and all the mechanics of the instrument itself, there is also the fact that the reeds must be tooled for each new environment, and the chanter tuned by precise carving. Then, to top it all off the pipes cost about $10.000 for a well made one, and you DO NOT want to get anything less than the best with this instrument.
