Over the last few years there has been a subtle but important shift in the way defence procurement is taking place. In an effort to reduce through-life maintenance and modification costs, more and more nations are looking to specify the architecture used across a multitude of platforms. By specifying an architecture based on open standards and a data-centric method of communication, interoperability across a range systems, sub-systems and system-of-systems becomes more straight forward, whilst simultaneously promoting genuine competition for upgrade and maintenance contracts.
Defence IQ held its inaugural Interoperable Open Architecture conference, the only event in the world where delegates could assess developments across a broad range of "next-generation" open architecture systems and receive up to the minute information in this cutting edge field.
