Bernie is a 2.5 year old pembroke welsh corgi. She tolerates paw touching but would prefer to do things herself so I decided to teach her how to file her own nails to save us both stress.

Using a technique called shaping through clicker training Bernie learns how to scratch the doggie nail file board I made for her. This was our first session and she made tremendous progress.

**Note: My Clicker+ changed sound types partway through the shaping session. This was not purposeful. I continued the rest of the session with the click. Bernie knows both sounds as bridging devices so it didn't bother her.

  • Nice job!

  • Thanks! It was fun for both of us.

  • It is strips of stair tread on a piece of plywood. I elevated the plywood using another small piece of wood but it looks like my dog would prefer it to be a flat board.

When I did my research they said regular adhesive on sandpaper isn't strong enough to withstand doggie scratching so you have to use something better like stair tread.
