One suggestion, I know that you were trying to incorporate the lighting but I do think that this takes away a little bit.
What I would do is make the ball on fire right as he touches this so that it gives the effect that the BYU player is the "Trump Card" of this team

To be fair I think thats a great suggestion.
See what happened was I done the ball on fire FX but then I thought, "There needs to be something that causes the fire" me - not thinking creatively choose the lightning lol
