Man the list of people that Lawler wrestled against in Memphis is like a who's who of pro wrestling: Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Bruiser Brody, King Kong Bundy, Kerry Von Erich, Randy Savage, Terry Funk, Kamala...the guy really is the King of Wrestling!

@marchaldoe They were taped and replayed on Saturday nights. They would show highlights from the upper matches on the live shows on Saturday mornings. I can remember when they would announce the winners of the matches on the Memphis News channels on Monday nights along with all other sports. What a time that was.....

@wizeman5974 Yeah, Lawler was untouchable in Memphis which gave him a lot more leeway. Even back then I'd cheer him for everything. But looking back there is a LOT of questionable stuff with the way he was booked. Particularly the infamous Angel punch.

@CombatSportFan You know, I can see your point of view. But I think it was by design in order to help get "heels" over too. It may very well show that Lawler, while no doubt the most influential wrestler in the area, was willing to share the spotlight with other wrestlers and walk that fine line if it was good for wrestling and in looking back, it sure seemed like it was. A golden era of the sport never to be duplicated.

"The King of Memphis lives on."

This is the only negative I can say about Memphis booking which was 99.9% stellar for 30 years. They walked the line between heel/face too closely in a lot of areas, particularly with Jerry Lawler. For instance, at the end with the double team beat down on Lawler I felt no emotional sympathy for him since he threw the ref out and tried to do an illegal hold on Brody. After that, it's hard to really boo the heel since Lawler technically was getting what he deserved for his own actions.

He is truely the king of all Pro Wrestling, He has earned IT!!!!!!!!

Did the monday night cards at the coliseum broadcast live or were they broadcast only for sat morning tv shows? How did that work?
-
Why did they have lance for color commentary. Did the Monday night cards broadcast live or video taped on tv or just the sat morning shows?
Jerry has gone from one feud to another his whole life.
It was never about titles, he just acted as the policeman of memphis.
