If you knew that in a crash your car's airbag would take 6 seconds to deploy .... would you feel safe? Waiting for your antivirus software to update its signature definition files in order to protect you against the latest virus attack is like your airbag opening 6 seconds after a car crash. With malicious virus writers changing from the thrill seeker to the organised criminal, this delay has never been more critical.
The Challenge
With an average definition file update delay of 6-24 hours when a new virus is released, traditional signature based antivirus systems give the virus author a head start before the virus shields are up-to-date. So if your antivirus security is strongly based on definition file updates, this delay leaves a window where pc's or networks are vulnerable and unprotected until updated. Most organisations cannot afford being unprotected for hours as downtime becomes increasingly expensive, and so the challenge is to implement a solution that does not give virus authors a head start.
The SandBox Solution
Norman has delivered the solution that closes that head start window for the virus writer. Called SandBox, this exclusive and leading edge technology provides continuous protection and greatly increases the ability to stop the new virus from the time it is released by the virus author. While still maintaining signature based protection, SandBox technology finally delivers a level of protection that leads the industry when it comes to protection against malicious attack from new and unknowns. SandBox is a security solution based on a behaviour pattern that does not rely upon a defence that is based on signature file updates and complex guess work.
