Bus lanes have been in use in London since 1968. These kerbside bus priority measures are fairly effective in improving reliability (rather than speed). Kerbside lanes can be used on narrow roads as seen in this photo collage and does not restrict bus priority to wide roads as is the case with median bus ways such as those in Bogota. The great thing here is that buses cut across and penetrate deep in to where people live and work. Buses thus unlike trains or BRTS keep walking to the minimum and hence are not any slower for average commutes (trains and BRTS help only a proportion of journey's which are longer - hence demographics of a city matter when planning bus priority measures).
