This is Ben Harper's 'Number Three' off 'The Will To Live'. I created this arrangement myself, transposing it to standard tuning and tweaking it a bit for 6-string guitar. I've noticed that the way most people play it has the leading voice in the main melody missing - the original was on a 12-string, and the melody relies in certain places on the upper octave from the third string. So I added those upper octave notes in the key places, adding back that leading voice.

  • Great, really great!!! Congratulations! How i wish how to play the music the way you play, but i could never figured out how to do it. You're not using you're guitar in the regular tunning, are you?

  • Thanks! And yes, this guitar is in regular tuning. The original, however, was downtuned a bit and played on a 12-string - I played around with the arrangement a bit to get a similar effect despite being on a 6-string.

  • bad ass dude

  • Thanks!

  • Hey, good stuff. Been dabbling with this song for ages. I too play by ear as i find it much easier and tabs are infuriating! What are the chord shapes you use and i'll work out the rest? Thanks buddy.

  • It all revolves around Fmaj, Am, Gmaj, Ddim, and Cmaj. It's super fun, and the magic lies in the subtle transitions and chord inversions.
