You're right, they're not hiding their faces for religious reasons, as many people think. Even men in the Iraqi army and police, as well as American SWAT and special forces, wear masks to either be unrecognized by the enemy or to avoid inhaling dust/smoke.

Heck yeah. They hid their faces so that no one would recognize them. It isn't easy stepping up knowing that if you were caught you and/or your family would pay. I give them their props.
