The reason Andie ended up with Blain is because Molly threw a fit over ending up with Duckie and threatened to walk! Molly Ringwald was John Hughes golden girl....after this, he never put her in another one of his films!

I heard that Ringwald & Cryer didn't have chemistry, which makes sense. However, after the ridiculousness that Blain puts her through, it's difficult to believe that she would just run off with him. They probably would have to have a serious discussion... A better ending of the film would be for Andie to just be by herself for a while, but that doesn't make for as definitive an ending.

I honestly was really unhappy with the ending they went with. I was never really a fan of Blaine.

    Agreed. They kinda copped out.

I should go back in time and marry Jon Cryer.

I always thought Andie should have gotten together with Duckie instead :(

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I remember reading on a website that they actually did change the ending so that Andie could be with Blaine because they didn't want the message of the film to be (or the audience to think) that "poor" or "average" girls couldn't be with guys who were richer or more well off.

The ending they went with would have been easier to take if Blaine had said "I was wrong, and I am sorry." As it was, it turned out to be kind of a WTF moment. Still an amazing movie, though, with one of the best soundtracks ever.

It's not about social class, it's about being with someone who actually treats you well. What good to be with the "rich guy" if all he has is money?

Me, too. she should have chosen to be with someone who respects her and isn't afraid to show it.

I liked the new ending. It showed that a poor girl can be with a rich guy. Instead of her just throwing in the towel and ending up with Duckie, it showed she could break through the barriers. She was strong enough to do that. I think it would be out of character or Andie to just settle.
