I saw this for $0.50 at a college showing in the cynical '70's. Everyone (but me) groaned at the ending. I am glad posters on this board get it. Love Gladys George, too. You can really pick up on Panama's and Eddie's comfortable relationship. Too bad it didn't work out for Panama. Maybe she'll find someone or something better.

Still one of the greats from an era of lates.
Im surprised they havent tried to remake these in black and white, not sure we have the actors and directors to make it worth the effort--- it would never be the same, but with the right combo it might be an interesting effort. M.

Jeeeeee wiiiiiiiiiiz I almost cried. Brilliant, brilliant, just brilliant! They played "melancholy baby" at the end too. Gosh, I just love Cagney. They really don't make 'em like they used to.

Cagney's greatest death scene, even better than ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES.

all i can say is WOW! there is no comparison to these movies nowadays. James Cagney is brilliant! he has the charm that no actor can equate to in this present day. im so exited to be discovering these great gems we call films. these films have a feel that no other films do. there is just something about the old days...

There was an old 1930's movie called Scarface, which is 'okay', but lacks superstar quality from the lead actors. Actually the real pre-cursor of Scarface is a film called Little Caesar, starring the genius Edward G. Robinson. It's parallel with the 1980's scarface in many ways, and Robinson was the original gangster. He even looked like Al Capone!

What an ending line! Deserves an applause for the last line.

"He used to be a big shot"
