The slime mould is totally harmless, but the plates can get mouldy after a few days (from oats, etc). I dispose of them as I would any food that's been left in the fridge too long, i.e. put it in the bin or compost it. No formal procedures necessary, no license to experiment necessary, just watch it grow...
All the food in this animation went on dry, but the surface it is growing on is agar jelly which is pretty wet so the dry food softens, making it easier to consume. And you're right, they do prefer damp conditions.

How do you expirement with slime molds? Like what are procedures after your done with them?

Interesting video! I wonder how the slime mold deals with dry food. Can it digest it? In a natural environment the food is always wet, I think.
