@AAndrews1968 Indeed. The sixteenth note grouping of four played his right foot alone puts this beat in a class of it's own. The vast majority of drummers cannot touch this.

Technically, I think flama-diddle-diddles between hat and snare and kick accents... but the feel is what Mr Colaiuta brings... absolutely love his work (amongst many greats) with Sting's 10 Summoners (sp?) Tales ... would agree with the assessment that if it looks easy, (with as many ghost notes thrown in), it takes years to make something groove so good, look so easy... Steve Gadd is, in my opinion the King in the field of feel... there are so many other greats, as well.

That's why there are very few Musicians these days but lots of Technicians... Guys have amazing technical skills and sound like shit because they are too worried about impressing their peers instead of learning to make great music...

@GNWP67 I stumbled upon this video somehow and though I was going to hear some really slick groove that sounded amazing... Like some type of Clyde Stublefield funky drummer stuff. What I hear sounds like a basic kick drum on the 1 snare on the 2nd beat type stuff. I'm just talking about sound... That's all anyone who isn't a drummer cares about. This type of stuff is for Technique Whores... Every instrument has them ... Guys who get hard-ons because something is hard to play regardless of the s

@disnukka79 and thats why non drummers are not asked for their opinion

There is no BEST drummer. However, Vinnie IS the most consummate, hands down!! Live, studio, clinics, creativity, originality and chops. He'll go down in the archives as THE master.

I can find 10 better drum beats in one song, this is so far from the best.
I'm not a drummer but... So fucking what??? Sounds like every lame beat from any rap song from between 82' and 85'

Believe me, this is not an EASY piece to play. Speaking for myself, this piece illustrates the work of a master. They take something difficult and make it look rudimentary. Perhaps in time one can learn to play a piece such as this with all the dynamics intact. To say however that it is EASY so to speak seems foolish.

@Dcdrmwthme Well, that's just a basic accented paradiddle groove pattern is all it is! Just play a paradiddle between your high hat and snare, accent the backbeats on the snare, and play 1& and 3& on the kick and you'll be doing the same thing he is. As drummers, we often see beat patterns we like and think they're more complicated than they really are. Have fun with it!

@TD12KX No offense, but there is nothing close to a paradiddle being played here with the hands, and the bass is playing a lot more than just 1& and 3&. But yes, sometimes beats sound like more than they really are.
