@robertdihno If You Trail Riding Only Go with a Granny 4spd. If You Trail Ride and Mud Bog Go with an Automatic. Clutches tend to burn up quickly when mud bogging.

@jpm7602 oh yea pipeline trails are nice going north right now, a friend of mine just got back, lots of mudd and hidden rocks. if you guys ever come thru antigo on your way to wheel, you should pick me up, i miss wheeling so much, but had to sell my rig after i became disabled and moved here, ive done some around here, but i grew up rock crawling in California in the mountains, but i miss it like i would miss breathing but wheeling is still in my veins

depends on waht your doin. but i say yes, especially in mud. because when your in mud if the main thing is if your movin, keep movin but if you start red lining your rpms you have to shift, in a manual you lose power for a split second, no matter how fast you are when you shift, where as in an automatic, you dont.

where can i get the stuff to do a spring over lift in a 66 scout 800 ? can you buy the kit anywhere that comes with shocks and new perches and all the extensions you need?

I got the axles from a 79 scout II and then put on new perches. I went with BDS shocks. there is a high steer kit for the Dana 44 to help with steering issues. I made a custom tie rod because I also installed a power steering gear from a 79 ford F150 it has the steering gear on the inside of the frame.

is an automatic better for off road?
robertdihno 3 years ago
a manual transmision allows you to crawl down things using lower gearing to your advantage where an automatic you need to hang on the brakes. if you have access to a manual trans I would go that way but if you have an automatic and cash outlay is a minimum you can wheel with an automatic
