TURTLE TRAX at: www.turtles.org

This video shows a Hawaiian hawksbill/ Hawaiian green turtle cross (or hybrid). This honu/'ea cross carries the name "Wai?" which is Hawaiian for "Who?"

Last summer we were worried about "Wai?" showing the first signs of fibropapilloma (FP) tumours. We feared that because s/he is part hawksbill that "Wai?" might become a vector for the tumour affliction to jump species.

As it is this summer, we've sighted the hawksbill "Kiniana" at our dive site. So we worry...

If FP expresses itself the same way that it does in honu, we can interpret "Wai?'s" grayed tumours as good news --signalling regression. We're keeping fingers crossed.

Signed,

  • Bob MaCauley assures us that this turtle DOES NOT have a tumor, as wild animals DO NOT get chronic illnesses like cancer. Go ask him on his channel....

  • I do not know who Bob MaCauley is, but I do know that he knows nothing about turtles and tumours.

Fibropaillomatosis is not a cancer, and cancer is not the only thing that causes tumours. Besides, animals get chronic diseases of all sorts, including cancers.

We have spent over 20 years studying turtles with tumours. I'm pretty sure I know one when I see it.

  • @homeostasis4me This Bob fellow does not know what he is talking about. Do a Google Schollar search on fibropapillomatosis and you will find 10's of studies and papers on sea turtle fibropapollomatosis. I plan to make my thesis for masters of environmental science on this.

  • Of that I have no doubt. Sorry to post such for you to feel beholding to reply- that was a stab at a very bad man I thought was going to watch it. He does not eat children , but trust me when I say he's baaaad. Nice vid. SORRY, mean it.
