I find it interesting to note that the government requires coal gasification processes to eliminate CO2 emmissions, but it requires no such burden on burning Saudi oil. The reason we can't use our coal is because the oil companies have invested billions of dollars in the oil fields of the middle east, which would suddenly be worth a whole lot less.

Right now, no CO2 emissions (whether from coal plants or oil/gasoline) are regulated. Coal is primarily used to supply electricity, while oil is primarily used to fuel transportation. They're not competing in the same market. And the price of both coal and oil has been skyrocketing -- all the global warming polluters are making money hand over fist.
