After work, I spent my Sunday afternoon and evening with the Illinois Rail Net. The first scene shows the train running east through Yorkville, IL., behind an HLCX GP38-2 (3839, with a great Leslie) and the two Hudson Bay Railway SD50's, 5008 and 5009.

The chase was on to Oswego, IL., where we got the train passing through town, nearing the Fox River.

Right outside of town, we got the splendid trio again.

The Fox River was the next location of the chase. A very cool location, right here. A few minutes after crossing the river, the train would reach downtown Montgomery, where the BNSF accepted the train right away.

Now, on BNSF Mendota Sub trackage, the Rail Net slowly makes its way towards Eola Yard, with 104 cars. It passes under the one of three, soon to be history CB&Q signal bridges in town.

The train had to hold short of Eola Yard, for about fifteen minutes. The train held at Farnsworth Avenue. Once Eola was ready for it, the show that these three EMD's put on was quite nice. I love the plume of smoke that 5009 shoots up.

With a big train to put away and running short on crew hours, the Hudson Bay 5009 leads the way out of Eola, light power, to head west and switch over to the track that leads into the east yard. In the east yard, the power will retrieve their outbound train.

This week, a chase of the westbound train wasn't to be, as the train left after dark. There's always next week!

  • where did you get the time tables???? i never get to see this train anymore because i have no clue when its coming. i hear it at night and sometimes in the morning but thats it :-(

  • That HLCX sounds like a former EJ&E locomotive.

  • NICE

  • You are fast becoming a favorite; my mom lived in Boulder Hill, near Montgomery and Oswego, and the line passed right the apartments across the street. Of course every time I had my camera I never heard nor saw a train. Keep them coming...
