  • Was that a "honk" at 2:10 ????

  • The "honk" or horn was either something the pilot had rigged up (like a portable canister boat horn), or the river boat blowing its horn. We watched this from a river boat and it was hard to tell where the sound came from. This demo was the first stop on the river boat tour.

  • Is the show still being done every year or is this an old footage

  • The show is the Discovery River Boat Tour in Fairbanks, Alaska. According to their web site the air show is still operating.

  • n421tt:

    He applied flaps shortly after take off for a brief time. He had full flaps on landing until he touched the ground.

  • That looks like a fun little strip. Nice landing. Is it just me or did that take like only 70 feet to get airborn?

  • It was a very short run both ways. We were on a river boat tour and this was one of the demo stops of the tour in Fairbanks.

  • One thing for sure it's not this pilot's first rodeo.great video.thanks

  • @DennisWD i think its the plane

  • Very experienced pilot too. I bet he can fly that thing and the box it came in. RN

  • @mattch49 You sure do fly a j-3 from the back but I flew my super cub from the back last week with no problems .

  • Not bad. Think he could have landed shorter if he planted the mains better on initial touchdown? Looked like he skipped it a bit....

  • Lol, that plane would definately need more runway if me and my family got in it :}

  • how a 1000 lbs plane can takeoff man am surprised!

  • Go Fieseler, don't they make them anymore for this stuff? But did that super cub have reverse variable pitch prop?

  • @DennisWD Flaps are applied right as you pull back on the stick for take off..Theory is that if you leave them up there is less drag while gaining speed the all of a sudden pull flaps to 20 degrees and pull stick back at the same time...it works.

  • I saw this exact demonstration a few years ago. You take this touristy river boat ride in Fairbanks and this is one of the many things they show you. If in Fairbanks and you have never been out of the big city, it is a must see.
