i think he is right, because most of the time when you shank a shot, you try thinking of why you did it and how it sliced or hooked, and you start thinking of complex ways of what happened when really you should just block out everything complex and just have a nice easy swing and concentrate on the club face being square and hitting the ball with solid connection.

Any fool knows if the club face is square at impact the ball goes strait, the tricky part is getting it square at impact!! and consistantly!!!!!!!!!!!
