An excerpt from Vangelis' interview on French TV, 1993.
The music is played live and is pure improvisation.
Masterclass for keyboardists...
Enjoy :-)

  • I'm watching him play, and I still can't figure out how he's doing this. How is he getting all those different sound combinations live?

  • @audiotrax2000

Check also my videos "Vangelis collection (Part 1 to 3)".

He has a unique control system to play his synths, its build only for him to satisfy his need to play everything in real time. I read few things about this control system, but generally we dont know exactly how it works. You can see it in Mythodea live. There are few pics too, there you can see...18 vol. pedals on his feet!! He control a crazy amount of synth sounds in real time, he is really unique :-)

  • Yes, great pianist.

I read somewhere that he learnt by himself !

He has a very classical inspiration for his music.

At the opposite, Jarre has a modern and pop inspiration.

Both are very good ! Especially their works between 75 and 85 (as well as Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk). The great era of vintage synthesizers :)

  • the great wow this is pianist

  • Amazing, great to see this again, I taped it on vhs from French tv back in in ´93 but have since lost the tapeboth tape and player. I love to see this guy improvise, it´s pure genius at work here :-)

  • @audiotrax2000 I believe he uses hold and volume pedals. I have seen him do his in other videos. He hits a few notes on one keyboard, which he holds and fades in and out with a volume pedal. Of course, he may well be using velocity switching.

  • @audiotrax2000 technically its not difficult to do . All synth are equiped with means to play multiple sound at the same time. A workstation can play even up to 128 monophonic sounds at the same time. So the technology is there, and through midi it was possible to chain multiple synths and be triggered at the same time from one keyboard. Also Vangelis uses technology that simplifies the task by changing sound through foot pedals. OF course he is also a great player as well.

  • The best keyboarder of all time

  • Pure musical deliria!
