You know, I've heard that line SO many times about Clayton, but here's what it really comes down to for me: For 30 years, he has been central to the U2 sound, and the band has never seen fit to replace him. No Clayton = no U2, simple as that. (Besides, have you even HEARD his parts in New Years Day, Gone, Kite, ... Classic Clayton.
