Antonio Vivaldi
Stabat Mater, RV 621
"III. O quam tristis"

I am picking up where margotlorena left off with Vivaldi's Stabat Mater. You can find the first (Stabat Mater-Largo) and the second (Cujus animam gementem-Largo)movements on her channel.

(From Wikipedia)

Stabat Mater is a thirteenth century Roman Catholic sequence variously attributed to Innocent III and Jacopone da Todi. Its title is an abbreviation of the first line, Stabat mater dolorosa ("The sorrowful mother was standing"). The hymn, one of the most powerful and immediate of extant medieval poems, meditates on the suffering of Mary, Jesus Christ's mother, during his crucifixion.

It has been set to music by many composers, among them Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Joseph Haydn, Antonín Dvořák, Antonio Vivaldi, Emanuele d'Astorga, Gioacchino Rossini, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Charles Villiers Stanford, Charles Gounod, Krzysztof Penderecki, Francis Poulenc, Karol Szymanowski, Alessandro Scarlatti (1724), Domenico Scarlatti (1715), Pedro de Escobar, Arvo Pärt, Josef Rheinberger, Giuseppe Verdi, Zoltán Kodály, and Trond Kverno (1991).

Latin Text:

O quam tristis et afflicta
fuit illa benedicta,
mater Unigeniti!

Translation

O how sad and afflicted was that blessed
Mother of the Only-begotten!

you should definitley check out :

mozarts fantasy for the organ kv 608 (its mb the most underrated mozart piece ever, especially the last allegro part is beyond everything else and can mess with bachs organ pieces easily, especially if you know that it is an improvisation which he wrote down later )

    /watch?v=C5M9KsJ3qRM&nofeather=True (here the best performance)

  • @Dirkovic80 What you say is very right my friend!! I do also love all the pieces in Minor mode especially Mozart one's. Please listen the Concerto in Adur KV386 of Mozart, when transform the Adur in Fsharp moll...Listen also to the Scriabin Etud Op12/8 in Dsharp minor...We can also have Schubert' Impromptus or Etud Op25/12 by Chopin.

  • what long breaths in the scaling vocalisms - if only a bit slower

  • The beggining is copied from L'estro harmonico...eheheh

  • OMG! Fantastic so incredible clean voice!

  • sooo sweet.....just the right combination of sadness and joy to put under the spell and make you listen to it again and again...brings to mind one of Shakespear's sonnets...Thank you very much for posting it.

  • Quoi de plus beau?

  • Here is another very moving sacred piece that I was not aware of until recently: Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine
