Thus far AIG received more than $170 billion in taxpayer bailout money and now AIG wants to pay a good chunk of their employees about $165 million in bonuses; included are top executives who are obviously incompetent.

It happened because of 2 reasons.The media was and still is enamored by this phony and took every swipe they could at any who challenged "the chosen one".
Secondly, he promised cradle to grave social programs, as a result, 97% of blacks voted for him, most couldn't even tell you who his VP selection was or one single issue obama stood for. They saw a massive welfare state on the horizon, a "brotha" in charge and with ACORN padding the vote, it could not have turned out any other way.
