Decriminalizing and regulating marijuana can have a significant impact on the growing federal deficit. If regulated and taxed, this could prove to be one component to aid the looming fiscal cliff.
After medical marijuana, and taking into consideration the jobs it would create, how it would significantly reduced time and money spent in the legal system, there are many reasons it should be considered as a component to the nation's debt solution.
After all, with today's national deficit, every idea should be considered and explored.

First off, the cash generated from weed is ALREADY in the system. In private hands. So the great idea is to put it into public hands, because they are so good at finance?
Tax revenue is NOT the problem. It's the massive spending.

We respectfully disagree. We look at marijuana as a new source of income for our nation, an income we desperately need.
Over 500 of the nation’s top economic professors support the removal of prohibition and imposing the taxation and regulation as a way to slow the federal deficit.
Prohibition costs America upwards of $20 billion annually. Why not decriminalize something that has no business being criminalized in the first place and re-prioritize our legal system to run more efficiently?

I can't understand why if 70,000 people have seen this decent video has only 11, now 12 responses.
Then I found out through YouTube that only 49 actual people watched this and the rest of the supposed views are computer generated by ElectedFace and Tube Promoter with no humans involved. Maybe they should do a story on themselves. Title: Elected Face pays for computer generated views to try and trick us. What a crock!!

We traced your real identity and it appears you are really Gary Szasz. We know you are impersonating somebody to raise questions about electedface videos. This is a cheap, dishonest trick. Please refrain from making these false assertions.

Gaga brought me here. But I've always supported the idea of legalizing marijuana for those reasons and because I miss the good old days. For some reason I just had a higher quality life when I was smoking weed... but I doubt that we'll ever legalize it...but I'm going to sign the petition anyway as a hopeful. Legalize it in Nevada please!!!

It could be taxed when grown and sold by others. You're allowed to grow your own tobacco tax-free. But when you buy cigarettes, there is a tax. The tax comes from the transaction not from the possession. The businesses that sell it (formerly drug dealers) could get taxed like any other businesses. So you would get retail, distribution, and production taxes.
People could grow it themselves. But they can grow tomatoes too. We mostly just buy them from the store. Same with weed.

I support the cause, if they don't legalize soon. We can just create a cannabis friendly area of the country & close the borders to the feds...

We are 16 Trillion in debt with 25% of it occurring in the last 4 years (unbelievable). 86 Trillion if you count SS and other entitlement iou's.
The USA is in a spending vortex, and any actually created revenue will have a negligible effect on the debt.
There are reasons why weed should be legalized, but stating that any meaningful help to our national debt is false. There is simply no way to keep up with the current government spending, even if weed was taxed at 500%.

I'm not sure what is not true, but we can at least agree that marijuana is an untapped national resource that can help our drowning economy.

not true, just decriminalizing it would reduce the costs of enforcing laws criminalizing it.. that alone would save a lot of money.
My thoughts are that if legalized its way to easy to grow your own and the price to buy it will drop to nothing killing it as a "cash crop".

I agree, if we tax tobacco and alcohol, we should tax marijuana, also.
I don't know when people are going to get it thru their heads, that the war on drugs was over years ago, and the drugs won.
