Did u know, Fred Astair used piano wire to lace up his shoes, giving him that slide that he was famous for. It also is exceedingly dangerous and he was told that it could cause small heart attacks to occur when he used them. He never stopped as he wanted the moves to look perfect. some small triva about a master dancer

From what source did that information come?

James Cagney's Auto biography, where he was speaking to Astaire about a dance scene he was filming in a movie, he started talking about the crazy things they both did to get (and keep) a job. Astaire mentioned the piano wires as shoelaces etc.

Thanks for your answer. That was a new one on me, so I looked in "Cagney by Cagney." Actually James was recounting a story from George Raft: "George told Freddie and me that in those early days he used piano wire for shoelaces. He laced them up tightly in order to numb his feet so he could dance faster. I told him that was dangerous as hell to do, and he agreed. 'I know,' he said, 'I found out later. I used to get pale green around the mouth. I was actually suffering a mild heart attack.'"
