For the Reps, I think the Dem ticket they fear the most is Obama/Clinton. The Reps desparately need to peel some of Clinton's female voters away. This ticket won't happen though because Obama doesn't want to deal with all the Clinton baggage.
The nightmare Rep ticket for the Dems, I think would be a female VP or a hispanic VP that could draw larger numbers of female or hispanic voters away from Obama. Don't know who the VP might be though.
