When I first got my Epiphone G-400 faded, it wouldn't stay in tune. The tuning machines were Grovers so they weren't the problem. The nut had rough slots that I sanded out a touch and put gun oil, and that didn't fix the problem either. When I took off all the strings, I noticed the Tune-O-Matic bridge was loose. The problem was with how corse the the treads were on the posts. I fixed it using cheap steel washers and some loctite (blue 242 removeable). I was able to screw down the posts to a firm contact point and now the thing finally stays in tune.
