I just went to France, and all the Wi-Fi spots were open. It broke my heart when I realised that nearly every spot had a damn landing page and you needed a damn password.

Any good made free by government mandate becomes both more expensive in terms of lines, and sparse. Look at the former USSR's food distribution system, and tell me you want to make wifi and/or internet to be free. O_o
