@kiisaka I agree, most of this piece is marked pp. It makes it much harder to play in some sections at greater dynamics, think this is why the pianist has such wild variations in tempo. Don't think the technique is lacking in any way, just that he is making life very difficult for himself. This is Ravel, not Rachmaninoff; think Chopin and the French school of pianism. Less is more...
I beg to differ. I find it crudely loud and bangy. Terrifying for sure, but not haunting. That comes from subdued voices, as specified by the composer.
Such elegant, gorgeous playing. This is how its DONE.
All you pianists out there should worship this man's playing. This man is one of the greatest alive today, and holds his own against giants of the past as well.
Great facility, of course, but this is intellectually atrocious. It's a 500-pound Scarbo.
