Ist overtake a bit risky? I'm told to give up the crown of the road to oncoming traffic.

I didn't understand why he was so close in overtake #2 and not getting the view much earlier?

hi Nige, the requirement to indicate at both over takes (Giving information) was it necessary? and the two shoulder checks (taking his vision off the road ahead) before turning right after a line of traffic had cleared the road to his rear where they also required? Very best DB

@DBr1200rt - Indicating - Not required : Shoulder checks well spotted. On reflection prehaps not

hi Nigel another great vid by the way,
interesting as in the 1st overtake looked close to oncoming traffic and the second showed up the vastly superior view from your camera compared to the riders view which would have been compromised by being so close to the lorry.
on a ride out yesterday i did a similar thing , the instructor took an offside position for better view and overtook from behind me . i had a nearside view but not an offside view , this was exactly as this only i didnt overtake....

@flowerm4n - I think what you have to consider is trying to get as much information as possible, either from the offside and or nearside. Then you can make that split second decison toovertake. If you have to think about the decision, then the overtake is NOT ON. Also consider forsaking the safety position prior to any overtake, then you have less distance to travel before actually starting the pass on the vehicle you intend to overtake.

what grade did the rider achieve if you don't mind me asking as overtake 1 looked rushed and on number 2 it looks like he was far too close to get a view. would be interested to hear your views

@crazyjoyce On the overall ride he got a Silver grade. The examples on the video are to illustrate that when ever anything happens as in the first overtake, just get on with it. The test lasts over 60 minutes and I assess the whole ride.
