@jonathanaconway It seems like a difficult idea to test either way. Is China outstripping Australia? Can you even name a free economy, or is it an idealized fiction? I am in no ways an expert in economics, but I was wondering if you were willing to question what I perceived as a naive Adam Smith-ian belief that the Invisible Hand makes all things maximally fair, just, wealthy, good, whatever. So, hypothetically, if Cuba was better per capita than Texas, would you change your mind?
-
@jonathanaconway Have you heard of private mercenaries? Power and force aren't solely in the domain of governments, especially smaller ones. I'm sorry if I come off as blunt, but it is wrong to assign 100% of all guilt goes to one entity when multiple parties are engaged in unethical behavior. Even if there is the threat of doom, one can still do the right thing, and I doubt international corporations are ever on the receiving end of doom threats. The world is big. They can just walk away.

@beriukay As to controlled economies outstripping free ones, I know of no historical examples, and I'd ask you to question your claim if you can't provide any. It certainly is possible that controlled economies might outstrip other controlled economies. Then it would depend on the nature and extent of the controls. One of the worst effects of government intervention is how difficult it becomes to separate private action from government action, or free trade from government coercion.
-
@beriukay In cases where corporations have been *forced* to deal with government, due to the government controlling the nation's economy, it is the government that is 100% to blame, not the corporation. However, in cases where a corporation has actively pursued government action in their favor, they certainly deserve condemnation. However, both of the above situations are *ultimately* due to the government having the power to initiate force in the first place.

Americans are slaved by ufanism, which they call patriotism. There is no patriotism in joyning the army. Corporations manipulate politicians, who manipulate the people.

I just love how you are one of the few people on Y/T that can actually articulate a real thought and some gumba is distracted by the kitchen lighting.. that says it all.
