Wildlife is endangered by human activities as never before and species extinctions threatens the biosphere and our own future well being. Renowned wildlife biologist David Woodruff will illustrate the use of new genetic methods in the management of threatened and endangered species, and show how the process of genetic erosion in fragmented populations compromises the future of even protected populations. I hatch! Crawl! And swim!

I love my life, except for...

    People. Dont hurt me!

    —An Endangered Green Sea Turtle

  • So there is a hope for the endangered species! I'm quite happy and positive about this.

  • @hooligan0420 also, dude, saying that people who care about feminism and other civil rights movements are not relaxed is such neo-liberal bullshit. I guarantee you I'm far more relaxed than the kinds of conservatives who reminisce sadly about the days when it was normal to say 'mankind' and see feminists as angry man haters. I'm not saying that Prof. Woodruff is like that - in fact I'm sure he's not, and from your comments, you don't seem to be either. Just that i'm both feminist and v. relaxed

  • @hooligan0420 Hmmmm, yes, I tried to see it that way too - but I really don't think that's what he was saying - I think if he was actually making such a thought out point he would have spelled it out right? And he wouldn't have said, and here I quote verbatim "..lets be sexist...".The idea you are talking about wouldn't be considered sexist by someone making it. I think he's just exercising that dumb, knee jerk backlash against all things "PC". It's a shame is all.

  • @hooligan0420 meh, Sexism and other types of bigotry are actually fairly detrimental to science - Darwin had problems in his formulation of sex relations in evolutionary theory + quite a few of his ideas that we see today as a bit off the mark can be kind of excused by saying - well, for his time...Which is fine, but also true. Anyway claiming that people who notice things like this are not relaxed is just stupid and boring, I mean - yeah, conservatives are the most relaxed people! pffft

  • Respond to this video... So please relax, I for one think women are great.

  • @emmmjf

relax it was a comment that was fairly accurate, as men run most of the capatilist instsitutions

and governemts of the world, that are causing or allowing the destruction of biodiversity.

Maybe women would do a better job , for i'm sure (as david realises) they are as capable as any man.

womens repression by society and religion seems to be accepted as history, lets not make it the future.

and by recognition his comment places responability on man (not woman) so back handed complement

  • 'Let's be sexist"? What a shame he thinks like that. I wonder why he specifically said that? Not just a slip up, or the un-PC habit that we can forgive from someone who is part of the aging generation - he deliberately says "let's be sexist". Why David? I'm a woman, and I work on a PhD project at the moment that is in large part concerned with the conservation genetics of some snake species. I was happy to see this talk on you tube. However, I find myself totally excluded by this stupid opener.

  • He couldnt care less about the tree mice... nice... Up until that point this guy impressed me.
