A fine recording of arguably The Sound's greatest song. This version has a much more brutal production quality to the original album sound. Creating more of an intense atmosphere. Adrian let's rip here with bleak and personal lyrics - he sings his heart out, feelings fully exposed for the listener. Enjoy, get chills and listen LOUD! Taken from the compilation album, 'THE BBC RECORDINGS'. Recorded in October, 1980.

Adrian Borland (RIP) - guitar & vocals. Graham Green - bass. Bi Marshall - keyboards. Michael Dudley - drums

So many feelings
pent up in here
Left alone I´m with
the one I most fear
I´m sick and I´m tired
of reasoning
Just want to break out
Shake off this skin

I can´t escape myself

All of my problems
loom larger than life
I can´t swallow
another slice
Seems like my shadow
marks every stride
Can I learn to live with
what´s trapped inside

I can´t escape myself

So many feelings
pent up in here
Left alone I´m with
the one I most fear
I´m sick and I´m tired
of reasoning
Just want to break out
Shake off this skin

I can´t escape myself
I can´t escape myself
I can´t escape myself

  • Always loved this version. It's clobbers the version on Jeopardy. Amazing.

  • Really fantastic...

  • I think many of the best lyrics in rock history come from post punk/new wave artists like Ian Curtis, Adrian Borland, Nick Cave, Mark Burgess...Their words are so heartfelt and powerful. They can touch your soul and despite their sadness there's no egocentric self-pity, only a great effort to know and accept (or defeat) your nature. In Ian's case it even seems the live chronicle of this eternal and epic struggle inside human soul. We can lose or win and we can't escape it.
