Public education is critical to Australia's future. Education is critical because it leads to innovation. Innovation is the way to grow the economy without plundering the planet or growing population. To really make innovation tick we need free education. Public education in Australia is being starved of funds at the moment, whereas the 161 wealthiest private schools in the country receive 432 million dollars a year from the Gillard Government.
The Greens would stop this waste and re-direct that money back into the public sector. This would mean about 10,000 new teachers accross the country. More teachers means smaller class sizes and that means a better quality of education. A better educated population leads to more innovation giving us a better quality of life and a strong economic future.
