Showalter, I think you misinterpret the exchange. Tyson is politely asking him to be gentler with his methods. Dawkins then basically says F off to those who can't handle his methods. Tyson is not included in this group.

I agree with your comment and I would add that Dawkins understands that both men have the same job but they do it with a different style. Also note that Dawkins is from the culture of England and Tyson is culturally American. I think that they both respect each other.

My point of view has evolved. You could be right.

this was epic. Dawkins and Tyson are, in my opinion, two of the most influential scientists out there who have probably impacted and persuaded thousands of people to become scientifically literate.

I think at the end, Dawkins wasn't trying to subtlely tell Tyson to fuck off, but he was rather just making a joke saying that yes, he knows he's harsh at times, but he could be worse!

Yeah sure, I'M the one failing to understand something here.

Agnosticism and atheism are NOT mutually exclusive. Dawkins is both and so am I. Shouldn't be this hard to understand.

He even calls himself jokingly a Tooth Fairy-agnostic to bring home the point that he's not certain (=gnostic in other words).

Have you even READ the God Delusion? You are trying to argue with me over Dawkins' OWN beliefs (or lack thereof). I'm not Richard Dawkins. But I've read his book and I know where he stands on the issue. I've explained it to you twice and you have failed to understand. You must indeed be Christian.

OK, first you say he is "NOT agnostic" and then I might be able to classify him as one...

Need I say more.
