I didn't know there was an anime of Anne Frank's story. Turns out this was released in the late 70's, hence the decent animation quality.

I'm impressed. In all honesty, I never expected that the Japanese would dare make something like this. It's not often I see an anime related to WW2 or touchy things like The Holocaust and what-not. I'm looking forward to seeing all parts of this movie.

I wonder if some Japanese attitudes (especially those relating to the war years and the Japanese militarist treatment of Emperor Showa, aka Hirohito) rubbed off on their treatment of the characters of the diary of Anne Frank. "Must look good in front of the glorified Nazi leader"?

Doesn't mean it's "american-ish." Yes it's anime, just a different style than you're used to.

Tell me one American cartoon, which looks like this. Nothing by Warners Bros. Disney or Dreamworks at least. The pacing especially is something you wouldn't see in an American cartoon. There are all kinds of skin, hair and eye colors used in anime.

In what does it try to be like American? You sure don't know much about anime. There's a lot of realistic style anime, like Steamboy, Akira, Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Run Melos and everything by Satosh Kon.
