What would you recommend someone use for irrigation if clean water is not immediatly available? There are times when I am at my girlfriends second house out in the country and because it is not occupied year round the only source of water (other than bottles) is well water.

As an anesthesia resident, I really appreciate your project. You do a great job teaching and preparing the average guy and dispatching medical misinformation like using peroxide in wounds.

@1985usa - MAny thanks for the support! I am always impressed with how solidly use of hydrogen peroxide and iodine is ingrained into everyone's idea of wound management. Good luck in residency!

For and edc FAK, i think the splash shield is too bulky. Couldn't you simply soak a gauze pad or cotton with clean water and wipe clean without so much procedures and equipment.

@untouchblz - in a pinch yes, but not the best way to manage wounds. The best method is direct pressure irrigation.

@USNERDOC I noticed that the irrigation attachment for the syringe is only offered in one size. I am guessing this is because most wounds that it will be used on are assumed to be small sized wounds, and if it were any larger you probably would use some other method of irrigation?

@billyshob - good question! There is only one size of the irrigating shield. The whole point is the focused pressure irrigation and splash protection. This is the same shield I use in the ER. We have a 10cc syringe in the kit because of weight & size constraints. Ideally one should use a 20cc syringe but you can for sure get the job done with the kit equipment. You just irrigate more for larger wounds. Hope that helps!
