Last night I uploaded Harry Nilsson's "Thursday" because it reminds me of fall, and down here in Texas its hot as hell. I wake up craving crisp autumn mornings. It's weather that will make you feel like a strawberry (reference to Lady Salvia). Anyway, Memphis in June reminds me of that, too, despite what an obviously lazy summer song it is, so here it is. I could only find a video with some dude playing it on guitar, and he was badass, but I really dig Hoagy Carmichael's voice and style. Check out "Two Sleepy People." Someone uploaded it to Youtube with a bunch of pictures of little dogs, haha. Hoagy Carmichael is great in it, but Ella Logan steals the show.

  • This is really good. It would be a good ploy to play this to unsuspecting listeners versus Johnny Mercer's version then ask the question "who has the more understanding of this song?"

  • Thanks for uploading the original Hoagy Carmichael. I hope you don't mind my little addition to Lucy's great rendition of the beautiful "Memphis In June".

Ginnie Powell, one of the most underrated of all jazz vocalists. She did a marvelous job with her interpretation of this gem.

  • @broadwayapple You are so right. This an absolutely fabulous recording. Hoagy is so relaxed and at ease with himself. Simply and amazingly beautiful. One of my favorite 50's jazz recordings.

  • this song is so great..... RIP Hoagy

  • this is so good, can't playing it,

    thx :)))

  • just love this tune :)))))

  • This mid-50s record by Hoagy is a masterpiece - with a great Johnny Mandel arrangement. The version recorded around the same time by his frequent songwriting collaborator Johnny Mercer (and ace arranger Billy May) is another gem!

  • The song may well be Nina's but Hoagy wrote it!

  • yeeeeeeeees, I'm lookin for nina simone version too...the songs hers man xx

  • seek out Nina Simone's version-and it's a blueberry pie from Ms/ Simone
