THe business hours Alex is mentioning seem to be the ones of a small village.. In big cities the normal stores, banks and post offfices dont do a lunch break and are usually are open at least until 4 or 6 pm...big supermarkets sometimes even until 10 or 11 pm..at least 8 pm.... But closed on sunday of course!

I'm from Switzerland, and the business hours and bus schedules work quite the same way as in germany. I have to say, I'm glad that (most) shops are closed on sunday and aren't open all night. I used to work in a supermarket as a cashier and I really wouldn't like to work on a sunday or go there and sit there at 2 am.
