It's the afternoon of August 13th, 2011, and here is a Utah Railway coal train in the process of dropping it's helper set at the top of the grade of Soldier Summit. Leading this westbound was MK50-3 5003, two Australian built SD50's 6064, 6060, and two more MK50-3's 5004, and 5005. The last scene shows the helper set from this train on it's way back to Martin, UT. The helpers included: MK50-3 5001, SD50 6063, SD50 6061, SD50 6062, and MK50-3 5006. With the helper set entrained, 5 of the 6 MK50-3's ever built were on one train!

  • Indeed. I wish they still did it that way...

  • @SpeakerPolice Yeah, 3 on the head end and 3 pushing on the rear behind the caboose up the grade! Good stuff.

  • Maybe I should! x3

That would be nice to see...but I don't think there are SD50s in that quantity running anywhere. I wanna see something like what they used to do with the 50s on the Chessie System!

  • @SpeakerPolice Nice! Maybe you should post more comments on videos that have SD50's in them. It kinda sounds like an "ask, and you shall receive" situation. I wish I could see Rio Grande 50's on a coal train in the Rockies, but we know that'll never happen again.

  • It must be my lucky day! :D

I caught CSX's A777 intermodal tonight with not one, but TWO SD50s on point! Video to be uploaded soon. ^^

  • @SpeakerPolice Unfortunately, I think you're right.

  • I'd really love to see the CSX gang up a bunch of their SD50s, but I fear the next time that happens, they won't be in revenue service. D:

  • @SpeakerPolice Yes sir, it's pretty rare now to find that many in one spot, let alone 10 on one train! Utah Railway puts on a good show.

  • That is positively the most 645F engines I have ever seen in one place. NICE.

  • @Peavine21 Thanks!
